EMS Utilization
Utilizing EMS And On Scene Medical Procedures
If you are on a call where there is an injured person and EMS are on duty you are REQUIRED to make them aware of the situation and have them come to the scene to treat / help the individual. Police officers on scene MUST listen to all EMS given instructions. Emergency Medical Responders are responsible for that person's life and the law governs them to do so.
The police have a duty of care and protection and as such you are to make the scene safe for Emergency Medical Personnel and at all times treat them with respect. If you disrespect Emergency Medical Personnel or fail to adhere to their instructions on a scene you will be striked. At no point should a police officer be doing the job of an Emergency Medical Responder. The medical certification and training we offer gives training to police officers to provide basic first aid and CPR in order to keep them alive or stop bleeding until EMS can respond to take over. At no point should you transport an injured person to pillbox without EMS instruction or consent. If there are no EMS on duty you are to stabilize the person using the basic first aid training we provide and take them to pillbox so that the local nurses and doctors may properly treat their injuries. At all times make sure you are checking their injuries and making sure they are 100% safe to transport to the Hospital before moving them. What exactly can you do as an Officer without a medical certification? Apply Pressure and keep bleeding and wounds as stable as possible until a Medically Certified Personal can take over. Use the basic first aid training we provided in the academies. Basic bandaging and pressure application alongside CPR if required until a Medically Certified Officer can take over and wait for EMS to arrive. Failure to adhere to these procedures will result in Strikes, Suspensions Or Terminations depending on severity.
