Booking / Processing Procedure
When bringing a suspect into MRPD for processing, bring them to the back of MRPD through the locked gate making sure the gate is locked before you get the suspect out.. At all times, unless in booking, the suspect should be in handcuffs. A suspectโs options once in booking are: Wait for their lawyer, plead guilty, or post bail. If they need to file a complaint, they can come back and speak with a supervisor once theyโre done with their jail sentence.
NOTE: No one but emergency personnel may be in the booking area (medical and law enforcement only). Lawyers are not allowed in the booking area. Lawyers may wait either in the lobby or in an interview room.
Once in booking, determine if they have a mugshot on their profile. If not, take them to the booking room and lock the door behind you. Have them stand with their back against the wall and take a picture of them (without masks, glasses, hats, etc.) looking through your eyes. They may think about /mugshot if they wish. Place the picture in an imaging service (i.e. Imgur) and copy the link to the picture in the mugshot field of their profile. (example)
DO NOT edit their mugshot photo in any way.
Place them in the cell and, after making sure they have no weapons or a phone. You are to also confiscate any alcohol, lighters, gas cans and any item that may be used as a weapon (if they did not brandish a katana do not seize it) other items for confiscation are drugs, lockpicks as well as ammo boxes if they used a firearm. You can then uncuff them.
Reports should always be detailed and be written as if they are going to be brought up in court. Always put great detail and effort into your reports covering all events that transpired up to their arrest as well as any evidence, body cam or statements that pertain to their arrest. Be prepared for your reports and statements to go to court. A good way to write reports is as if you are telling a story from a third person perspective ensuring good detail and high standards. You should avoid writing reports where Bias may take place. If you are incapacitated by a suspect you should not process them, or if you are shot at or injured in any way you should also avoid processing them. This will require you to get another officer to handle your report and processing. You will need to give them your statement of events and let that officer decide how to sentence that individual. Although it is recommended you should avoid processing them, if you are the only one capable of doing so due to information etc you may still choose to do so.
